More than 30 years ago Downtown Collinsville was improving the sidewalks with some scenes very similar to the streetscape effort in progress today. This comparison shows sidewalk changes in front of Bayouth's (clothing store in 1977 and insurance agency since 1999). Missing in today's view is the grain elevator and the commuter bus to Tulsa parked in front of the Rexall Drugstore just east of 11th & Main.
Ray Henshall was operating the backhoe in 1977 removing the old sidewalks on the north side of Main Street between 11th & 12th Street. The City Cafe is just one of many businesses that changed from this block.
This 1984 sidewalk removal on the south side of Main was necessary to access the underground tank at the gas station on the SE corner of 12th & Main (which is now Mike's Fast Lube).
