James and Emalee Roderick of Collinsville wanted to give back to the community that they love and found a worthwhile project to get involved in. Collinsville Downtown Inc., an official Historic Main Street Community organization was the recipient of a sizable donation from the Roderick's specifically for the purpose of restoring the City Annex building in Collinsville. The City Annex Building will be the future site of the Collinsville Downtown Inc. office. The goal is to restore the building on 12th and Main back to it's original historic glory, so the Main Street Program has an office that will set an example for other Main Street buildings downtown.

James Roderick is the President of James R. Roderick & Associates, Inc. which is an environmental safety company. He also runs the Sale Barn in Collinsville and has a passion for historic restoration projects. The Main Street Program's primary focus is to preserve the historic intergrity of it's downtown district while encouraging economic growth and revitalization. Collinsville Downtown Inc. has been in existence since 2000 and has looked forward to the prospect of restoring the City Annex building, but until now has lacked the funding to do so.

The program relies on volunteers to help with restoration projects like this one and anticipate completing the City Annex project in the fall. "Collinsville Downtown Inc., has been an integral part of the town for so long, it is nice to see that philanthropists like the Roderick's recognize it's importance to the community. We are so grateful for what they contributed." says Collinsville Main Street Director, Maureen Wright.

Restored Building at 12th & Main Will Be Future Office of Collinsville's Main Street Program
CDI Board President Brad Francis helping with removal of the awning at 1126 W. Main (May 28th).
Most of the non-original front and west side additions to the building have now been removed to allow restoration to more closely resemble the building as it was in ~1913.
The last major overhaul of the building occurred in early 1999 when the conversion for the city commission meeting and court room took place. I'm not sure, but believe the Rural Water District had an office in the building a few years before then. -- Ted
I don't have an exact date for the original building but it appears to have been in place before the 1913 construction of City Hall. Evans Meat Market was in the front of the building and P.M. Eyler's newspaper shop was in the back (with the Star over the west side entrance).
This pre-1916 photo show a portion of the crowd gathered for a Fraternal Order of Eagles Convention in Collinsville (with the Star Grocery & Meat Market in the building since August 1914).
Genther's Grocery store moved to the corner of 12th and Main in January 1942 taking over the location of the former Whiteway Grocery.
