Coach Howard Ray

This was a very special team this year and Coach Ray did an excellent job of molding them into a dominating team. The finished the year UNDEFEATED*. (they lost a couple of the “festival” pre-season games, and we were told they were basically scrimmages. Like any Great Coach, he tried multiple line-ups and let all of the girls have plenty of minutes to prove themselves during these games). So if “officially” the games do count; then at least they were UNDEFEATED in Conference Play. My hat is off to the Coach! And we look forward to his involvement next season! -- Jeff Trost (Feb. 11, 2007)
Mr. Wright, -- I am a little confused; there has been no up date on your web page for over 30 days on the 7th grade girl’s b-ball team. I would think that this would be a topic of interest to all in Collinsville. The girls are undefeated and if you did not catch the game last night where they won by one point in overtime in the semifinals of the district tournament, you missed the game of the year. They are playing Saturday at 12:30 in the championship game. Now I don’t know if a 7th grade team in Collinsville has ever accomplished an undefeated season with a district championship win but this group of girls deserve much more LOVE than your web page is giving them. Yes I am a proud dad but come on where is the love? -- Proud Dad (Feb. 9th, 2007) Note from Ted: Much of that "Love" has to come from parents such as yourself who provide me with email updates on results and schedules and photos. There are far too many games (at all age levels) for me to attend all games. Advertising pays the bills here ... if you could round up a paid sponsor for a team they might get extra attention. Congratulations & good luck to the 7th grade girls (and all Collinsville teams). -- Ted Wright -- 2/9/2007
Ted: I remember a 7th grade Collinsville girls basketball team that lost their 1st game of the year (to a seasoned Cascia Hall team) and then won the rest of their games that season, including the conference tournament, which I assume Proud Dad is referring to as the district tournament. They also lost only one game in each of their 8th and 9th grade years. Where are they now? They're seniors about to lead our high school team to the state tournament. Hopefully, Proud Dad will see history repeat itself with this year's 7th graders. The two teams already have one thing in common, which I believe is a big reason for their success. They had the same coach: Howard Ray. -- Bart (Feb. 9th, 2007)
