Need Chainsaw Help?
Ted, First Baptist Church of Collinsville has and will have chain saw crews in for the next several days if people would like help with clean up they need to call the First Baptist Church, Collinsville at 371-2526 and will have someone contact them. This is a service provided by Southern Baptist Disaster Relief and is a free service. For more information call the church. (Ted this is free and is not a scam – but they need to contact the church because we do not contact the public first so they will have more confidence in the service.)

It had been 11 days since I last checked on the new Main Street bridge construction (Previous Coverage Dec 6th). Several additional piers have been poured since then. I don't know how many days were last due to the ice storm. Collinsville Schools were back in session today after missing all 5 scheduled days last week due to the aftermath of the ice storm. 3 weather days were pre-scheduled but 2 more need scheduling.
Outages of City-Provided Electricity Down To About 200

I'll have a bit more to add here later (Tuesday) based on City Manager Pam Polk's report to the City Commission Monday evening (Dec. 17th). I'll update the City Commission page Tuesday and then add here also. -- Ted 12/17

That page updated now & repeated below. -- Ted 12/18/2007

Monday 12-17-2007 City Manager's Report (by Pam Polk)
at City Commission Meet
  • Ice Storm:
  • only about 200 city electrical customers still without power (Friday target to have all restored)
  • from a total of 2600-2700 customers
  • 98% of primary lines restored ... mainly working lateral lines now
  • Praise to all of the city and visiting crews for their efforts and with no reported accident so far
  • Sallisaw and Stilwell crews had gone home for weekend but returned
  • Dallas power crews stayed here along with Arkansas tree trimming crew.
  • Received permit today for new brush pit and ability to burn there. No charge if city utility bill shown. Rural residents can pay $10 fee at city hall to show a receipt at dump site (on 156th between 19th & 5th). Brush only (no trash or construction material).
  • Planatarty (Dallas) crews working as late as 10:30pm some evenings.
  • City offices staffed over weekend to field calls. Lots of out going calls also Sunday to check status of weather heads and meters of those still without power.
  • Much more long term work to do with power poles that remained standing but were weakened (& brush cleanup & trimming).
  • Mayor and City Manager both thanked all city employees for their efforts and quick thinking ahead of the storm to have water tanks full and ordering of anticipated materials that are scarce now
