Cardinals Survive Bad Inning
And Defeat Cascia Hall

The Collinsville Cardinals defeated the Cascia Hall Commandos by the score of 13 to 8, but had to survive an almost disastrous fourth inning before claiming their second victory of the season. The Commandos scored first in the top half of the first inning on a two run home run. Collinsville countered with a run in their first at bat when Josh Walker singled and went to second on a wild pitch. David Chester sent Walker home when Chester lined a single to right field. The Cardinals took the lead in the third by scoring four times. Shawn Curtis reached first on an error, then to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Tyler Nair single. Nair scored when Jonathan Bewely also reached first on an error. The next two Cardinal runs scored on an error and a passed ball.

The two teams scored ten runs in the eventful fourth inning as Cascia scored six times when two Cardinal pitchers issued five walks, allowed two hits and recorded only one out. The third Cardinals pitcher, Alex Belitz, bailed the Cardinals out of the inning by retiring two consecutive Commando hitters. The Cards struck back in their half of the inning as they scored four times to once again take the lead 9 to 8. This was all the scoring that Collinsville would need as Belitz pitched two more masterful innings striking out two, allowing no Commando hits and collecting the win. Jonathan Bewely finished off Cascia by pitching a perfect seventh inning by striking out two of the three batters he faced.

The Cardinals collected eleven hits with four players having two hits. Kevin Phillips led the assault with two timely hits (single and double) and five runs batted in. David Chester also collected two hits (single and double) and three runs batted in while Tyler Nair added a single and a triple and one run batted in. Shawn Curtis also had two hits while Josh Walker added a single and two runs batted in. Ryan Coe and Brad Aguillar both contributed singles.
