I'm not ready for another full mystery page yet ... but I'll wait a day or two before adding the name of one of the 1957 beard growing contest winners above. Oklahoma (and Collinsville) was celebrating 50 years of statehood in 1957. (It's Bill Thomas)
Gat Ready For The Fair!
Bill Holman was making cornbread to enter in the 1957 Collinsville Tri-County Fair above. The 2006 fair has added a pie baking contest. There will be two divisions for the pie contest: Junior (12-18 years of age) and Adults (19 years and up). You may enter one whole pie (7'' or 9") in each of the following categories: fruit, combination fruit, pecan, sugar free, or pumpkin. No custard or cream pies please. Use a disposable pie tin. No mixes of any kind, no canned fillings, or commercial pie crusts. Entries are due 9:30am Saturday Aug. 26th and judging begins at 10am. The pies which are donated will be sold as a "Fair Fundraiser". More information is available on this and other fair events in the Fair Books available at the banks and the library. Contact Susal Worstell (371-5425) if you need further info on the pie contest. The 61st Collinsville Tri-County Fair begins August 24th.
Boosting Collinsville
Hello,

I live in Central Oklahoma. My family may be moving to the Tulsa area so I have been researching some of the smaller towns and school systems. The website I found for Collinsville is amazing. I am very impressed with the site. There is a lot of good community information to be found, and the website promoted a true feeling of smaller hometown friendliness. Thank you for the great information and links. As far as websites go, the Collinsville site is second to none. I also found the Collinsville Public Schools website http://www.collinsville.k12.ok.us/ and I think it would be great for you to add their link to your page. I hope to be moving to your community very soon.

Sincerely,
K. Sanders (7/30/2006)
Note: There are links to the school's web site on the cvilleok.com "news index" and "organization" pages.
I've been to Alaska and I've seen Grizzley bears from a distance, but one place high on my wish list to visit has always been the bears feeding on salmon at McNeil Falls. I've seen several TV documentaries with tourist standing in the open while bears walk by and feed. The new National Geographic live web cam may be the next best thing to being there. -- Ted 7/31/2006
Chamber Meets Thursday Noon
The Collinsville Chamber of Commerce will meet Thursday August 3rd at the Library. I'm sure the lack of volunteers for the 2006 Founder's Day will be one of the topics of discussion. Guest speaker will be Rose Washington Rentie who is the Executive Director of the Tulsa Economic Development Corporation (TEDC).
