Josh Compton home runs in the 3rd and 5th inning provided half of Collinsville's runs in a 6-16 loss to Miami here Friday. Josh's 1st inning homer was over the center field wall with Kyle Shults on base giving Collinsville a temporary 3-2 lead.
Jesse Bugg (above) moved from shortstop to the mound in the 3rd inning relieving starter Ricky Rimpley with 1 man on base and no outs. After 2 hit batters and 1 run, Chris Treibt came on to pitch with a 3-3 score and still no outs. Chris got a strikeout for 1 out, but gave up several singles before giving way to Cory Flynn with the score 3-8. Cory finally got the Cards out of the 3rd inning, but in the 4th inning (below) Miami added 6 more runs for a 5-14 score.
Collinsville got two runs back in their half of the 4th inning to cut the score to 5-8. Tyler Whitaker scores easily (above) on a Chad Ausmus fielder's choice. Below, Cody Brown slides in after a Kyle Shults single.
Miami's half of the 5th inning was delayed due to problems with the field lighting. The umpires, coaches and CHS Athletic Director Bill Rule discuss options during the lengthy delay. I had to leave during the delay, but apparently Miami added two more runs to end Collinsville's season. -- Ted
These are just a few of the loyal fans who cheered on the Cards in their final game of another successful season.
Berryhill beat Miami 12-9 the next day to take the regional and move on the state competition next week.
