Sorry: I had about 50 photos of the Lady Cards hard fought game with Deer Creek, but they are lost on my computer's crashed hard drive. -- Ted 10/11

Deer Creek Ends Lady Card's
Season In 0-1 Loss

Collinsville started off the fourth inning offensively with a double to the wall by Kelli Dunagan. Randon Powell reached base when Deer Creek's shortstop muffed a catch. The next three batters couldn't reach base, and a scoring opportunity was lost.

In the fifth inning, Deer Creek's lead off hitter drew a walk. A series of bunts and fielder's choices followed which yielded the game's only score.

In the bottom of the seventh (Collinsville's last chance) the Lady Cards came as close as you can to scoring but couldn't tie it up. Collinsville's lead off hitter, Biscuit Austin, was safe at first on a close play. The first out came on a strikeout. Mandy Clark then stayed alive fouling off several before dropping a hit just over the second baseman. The Collinsville runners advanced on a stray pitch leaving runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out. Lindsey Schultheiss' bunt sent the Collinsville runner to the plate where she was tagged just before the ball rolled out of the Deer Creek catcher's mitt. The umpired ruled it out number two instead of the tieing run, saying the ball was held just long enough. With two outs and runners on 1st and 3rd, the final batter could not connect and went down on strikes.

Their season ends with the Collinsville Lady Cards among the top four 4A teams in the State.

Anadarko had defeated Skiatook on Thursday and was facing Cushing in the game that followed the Collinsville game on Friday.
I don't know the results yet from Saturday's finals matchup.
Sunday 10/12 Update: According to the Tulsa World, Edmond Deer Creek beat Anadarko 5-1 for the 4A State Title.

Lady Cards pitcher Kelli Dunagan works to the plate with a Deer Creek runner on first.
Collinsville catcher 'Biscuit' Austin is ready for the throw, but it arrived too late to stop the only run of game (scored by Deer Creek).
