The board discussed selling 7 1/2 acres of unused school land at the end of North 15th Street which had been purchased many years ago. Assistant Superindent Craig Creech indicated that a minimum of 10 acres is typically recommended for any future school building site. The former owner (Marvin Hendrix) who still own adjoining property had requested to be notified if the property was to be sold. Board member Joe Hampton suggested that instead of selling the site as too small, that additional property be purchased to made the site more viable. Hampton stated that expansion to the south was blocked by Owasso and that expansion to the north should be considered. The board approved having the staff explore purchase options with Mr. Hendrix or other adjoining property owners. It was hoped that an entry from 156th St. North would be also be possible with an additional land purchase.

Future options for a chorus room were discussed. One likely plan would be to convert the stage area at the high school gymnasium into a chorus room. The stage is currently not used due to bad visibility from most of the gym seating areas. The stage was added in the 1980s. The chorus currently has about 150 students between the high school and middle school and no room large enough to hold all of them. The existing chorus room also does not have a 12 to 14 foot ceiling for proper sound. Mr. Herald and Mr. Creech will discuss that option with the architect when they meet with him Nov. 4th.

The school board approved a trial period for an ice cream machine at the high school.

Mr. Creech reported on the status of the effort to solve the on going drainage problem at the high school. A recent accident with a backhoe striking a buried electrical line could have been fatal according to Mr. Creech. A worker using a saw had cut within less than an inch of the live wires just before the backhoe was put to use. The total cost of repairing the damaged lines has not been received yet, but Mr. Creech indicated the school would likely be asking the city for aid in paying that bill.
