3 Hirings + Revisions to Student Handbook + Software Purchase
1. Purchase order approvals
& payment of purchase orders, funds & reserves, budgets, ...
-- Approved
2. Activity Fund Fund-Raiser for Volleyball -- Approved
3. Revisions to Student Handbook: (1) Piercing will be limited to the ears only. (2) Visibly offensive or distractive tattoos must be covered. -- Approved -- Discussion indicated the same rules should apply to teachers and all other school employees and that topic would be placed on the August 4th agenda. The High school student handbook has been consolidated with the middle school's to support consistent rules and a smooth transition for students entering high school.
4. Bids & Purchases: Computer software to manage the USDA Federal Breakfast/Lunch programs. $19,773.90 bid from Accu-Scan (represented by Michael Parham, Owasso) was the only bid returned from 4 requests. -- Approved -- Discussion indicated the present manual system was more than 30 years old and no longer supported. The new system would be PC based and the bid included installation and training. The 5 PC computers are not part of this purchase and have been ordered separately. This meal tracker system has been used in many other school systems nationally.
5. Resignations: none submitted.
6. Hiring of Personnel:
(a) Phil Davis [Summer Groundskeeper], (b) Larry Meeece [Summer Custodial],
(c) Damon Herald [Secondary History, Drivers Education, Coaching]
-- Approved --
An additional position [Elementary Special Education Teacher] was on the
agenda but the interview process had not been completed so it will move
to the August 4th agenda.
Some items of interest
from the Assistant Superintendent's Report (Craig
Creech):
* To eliminate flooding in the high school boy's dressing room ... shrubs
have been removed and the gound level brought up to no longer be lower than
the parking lot. Sod will be placed this week.
* A Sallee Field sign with ~2ft lettering will be placed on top of the press
box.
* A "dump" behind the baseball field at the high school has been
covered and would be fenced off and gated to prevent further dumping. Some
additional dirt-only material would be added as it becomes available.
Some items of interest
from the Superintendent's Report (Pat
Herald):
* The likely date of the next school bond election would be in February
2004 (possibly the 24th). The main objective for that bond election would
be to upgrade/remodel the middle school facilities. Most area schools are
avoiding fall 2003 bond elections to avoid any confusion with the upcoming
county sales tax vote in September 2003. Mr. Herald indicated architects
are already taking a preliminary look at options, and that after school
begins a committee would be named to further define plans. It is hoped that
with a February election, work could start in May as soon as school let
out to minimize the amount of time middle school students would be displaced
by construction in the fall of 2004.
* Superintendent
Herald thanked the community for their generous support getting through
this past financially difficult year. He indicated that the new state school
funding numbers would be available this coming Wednesday. One example of
the generous support given was the donated work (nearing completion) by
Code Red Underground on a sprinkler system for the softball field. They
had previously helped wth sprinkler systems for the baseball and football
fields.
