11) Discussion and Vote to Return to Semester from Trimester at High School Campus. -- approved, following a committee study (& CHS Principal Jon Coleman's recommedation) on the pros & cons of the current trimesters (& 5 periods per day) system at CHS, it was determined in the best interest of the students and teachers to return to semesters. Some of the trimester drawbacks cited were difficult transfer situations; many seniors needing only English 4 credit to graduate in the final months; many wanting to graduate early without the benefit of a 4th year of maturity; students could fail 6 classes and still graduate ... "may have set bar too low" ... need to get students more college ready to reduce remedial courses in college freshman year; more EOI testing; teachers have less total classroom time with students; shared coaches between mddle school & HS which were on different schedules. The tri system also did not provide the extent of new electives hoped for when started in 2006 under CHS Principal Cory Slagle. Proposed new schedule would have 6 period days with M-T-W & Friday normal but Thursday taking 5 minutes from each period for "TAF" session to reduce classroom interruptions for class meeting, assemblies etc. and for a teacher advisory time to meet with the same set of students for all four years. Minumum credits to graduate (which is now 27) would come down 1 per year until at 24. There would also be a 7:15am zero hour as needed.

12) Proposed Executive Session to Discuss Employment or Non Re-employment of Certified Personnel for the 2010-2011 School Year, Pursuant to Section 307 (B)(1) of the Open Meeting Law, O§, so that the Board May Return to Open Session and Vote to Re-employ or Not Re-employ Certified Personnel for the 2010-2011 School Year.
13) Vote to Convene in Executive Session.

23) Assistant Superintendent's Report. -- Lance West reported the chilling tower at the Middle School would be replaced (again) Wednesday (April 7th) and cool air should be possible by Thursday. The school has received a ~$25K insurance check. The insurane company is in term planing to sue to recover the cost from a list of potential candidates (not including the school) including the manufacturer and those installing and maintaining the unit. West indicated glycol would be used this time after being advided (incorrectly) last time not to ... and a last resort drain system is availble to prevent this 3rd unit from freezing up like the previous 2. (sample previous coverage ).

24) Superintendent's Report. -- Terry Due reported on the continuing budget shortage crisis and steps being taken locally to cut costs.
