Josh Pennington (#81) reached the Sallisaw 32 yard line with a Shane Douglas pass (from the 48) in the opening possession. Jamaro Oakley took the opening kickoff out to the Cards 35. Merin Oakley ran to the 47 but a holding penalty brought it back to the 36. Steven Majike carried to the 42, then Merin to the 49 then Sallisaw 48, to set up the pass pictured above.
Steven Majike (#36) continued the successful Collinsville opening possession with a carry (from the 31) down to the 22 yard line. Majike then picked up a first down on the next carry to the Sallisaw 18 yard line.
The two photos at the top of the page show the happy CHS football Cardinals preparing for their ride to Sallisaw via two charter buses (sponsored in part by the QB Club). This photo shows a room full of hungry Cardinals awaiting their steak & baked potato at the Sizzler in Muskogee.
This 18 yard Tyler Lowe halfback TD pass capped the opening Cardinal drive at 8:27 in the first quarter. The pass was knocked from the grasp of John Pinney (#85) in the endzone but Trevor Rabbit (#32) caught the deflection to put Collinsville up by a touchdown.
The Cardinals hauled their gear from the bus at the Sallisaw dressing room hours before game time Friday.
James Norris (#34) made the first of his 4 extra point kicks (above with Tyler Ames holding) with each point proving critical. This kick put the score at 7-0.
Sallisaw moved from their own 30 into Collinsville territory on their first possession.
Head Coach Lance West told the team in his pre-game address that they would always remember this game and would likely replay key plays in their mind for years. He asked them to give their absolute best on every play and leave nothing to regret later. At the end of the game he thanked them for giving that effort, "leaving it all out on the field" with their maximum effort, despite having a potential victory snatched away in the closing minutes.
Jayce Crowder (#57) ended Sallisaw's first possession with this interception which he returned down to the Sallisaw 30 yard line to start the 2nd Cardinal possession.
QB Shane Douglas (#9) capped off the 2nd Collinsville possession with this 7 yard keeper with 3:51 left in the 1st quarter. Norris's kick put the Cards up 14-0. The drive covered 35 yards (following a motion penalty) with carries by Oakley, Majike, & Douglas plus a pass to Majike.
The visitors stands at Sallisaw were full of Collinsville fans thrilled with the early Cardinal success.
With a 14-0 lead in the first quarter Collinsville held Sallisaw to a 3-and-out on their 2nd possession.
