| The HS dual was already out of reach with Cascia Hall ahead 21-40 and only two weights left but the 215lb match between Dalton Salisbury and Cascia's Kyle Cowan was still in doubt with less than 20 seconds left and tied 1-1. Cowan was awarded a takedown at the edge of the circle with about 10 second left and the win. | The photo above show one of at least two potential Salisbury take downs of Cowan that were waived off resulting in no points at the edge of the mat earlier in the match. According to the Tulsa World coverage (see link below) this was Cowan's 2nd defeat of a former state champ in just 11 days. Salisbury was the 4A 189lb State Champ back in Feb. 2008. |
Jan. 20th am email from Coach Riley: Dalton Salisbury added another feather to his championship cap by winning the 46th Annual Jerry Billings Sapulpa Tournament this past weekend. Wrestling at 215 lbs, Salisbury beat John Williamson from Braken Arrow 7-4 in the semi fianls. Williamson was named Outstanding Wrestler of the Geary Tournament the week before. In the finals, Salisbury defeated the defending 5A 215 lbs State Champion Znick Ferrel of Sand Springs 5-3. Cardinal Hwt Trey Rodgers had a good tournament and placed 4th. The Cardinals will be in action on Tues, Jan, 20 against Cascia Hall at the High School. |
