Collinsville Family Ties

The Verdigris Cardinals and the Pawnee Black Bears won the 2008 Class 3A and 2A State Baseketball Championships last weekend in OKC. Both teams have long time family connections to Collinsville.

Cole Overholt, a 6'1" sophomore for Verdigris was 2nd team All Tournament. He is a former Collinsville student and the son of Brad and Shannon Overholt. Brad was a 1987 CHS graduate and was an All-State quarterback / defensive back. Cole's sister, Chassidy, is a Collinsville 8th grader.

Adam Hollon is a 6'7" Verdigris senior who made the State All-Tournament team. He averaged 17 points and 14 rebounds. Adam is the son of Paul and Sherry (Tribble) Hollon. Paul graduated from CHS in 1976 and was an All-State player and member of the 1976 team that lost in the State finals. That 1976 team was the last CHS boys basketball team to qualify for the State tournament. Sherry graduated from CHS in 1977. She had an older sister and 2 brothers that also graduated from CHS.

Rotnie Clarke is a 6'1" Verdigris senior who has signed to playbasketball at the University of Arkansas next fall. Rotnie just set the all time Oklahoma high school basketball scoring record with 3643 career points. He is the son of Conley and Chris Clarke. Conley is an 1980 CHS graduate. Verdigris is coached by Kelley Clarke, a 1975 CHS graduate. Kelley just completed his 4th year with a 96-9 record. The entire Clarke family lived in Collinsville for many years.

The Verdigris girls also qualified for the State tournament this year but lost in their first game. They were led by Cassie Clarke (Rotnie's sister), a junior, who will be one of the top rated girls basketball players in Oklahoma next year. A key Verdigris reserve is Taylor Brim. She is the daughter of Chip and Candice Brim. Chip graduated from CHS in 1980.

The Pawnee Black Bears won the Boys 2A State basketball title led by Keiton Page. Keiton finished second only to Clarke in Oklahoma HS scoring. Keiton has signed to play basketball at Oklahoma State University. Keiton is the son of David and Karen (Ray) Page. Karen was a 1975 CHS graduate and was a standout basketball - softball - volleyball player for the Collinsville Cardettes. Howard Ray is Keiton's grandfather. Howard had taught and coached in Collinsville for many years and won State titles in basketball and softball. (Keiton video)

Congratulations to all of these local kids and their parents for a great season and amazing careers. It has been an honor to watch the kids play the past 4 years.
