resident Mary Ellen Bergsten passed away Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008. She was born
June 3, 1940 to Orval and Norma Casteel in Bowlegs, and later moved to Prairie
Valley. She graduated from high school in 1958, and from the University of Oklahoma
School of Nursing in 1961. She married Cecil Bergsten June 23, 1961 and is survived
by their three children: Dr. Cheryl Pfeffer (husband James of Collinsville); son
Steven Bergsten (wife Lana of Hurst, TX); and son David (wife Jamie of Shawnee). Mary worked in nursing for 40 years at the Shawnee Medical Center Hospital, retiring in 2001. She was an avid quilter, member of the Spinning Spools Quilt Guild, and a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband Cecil and mother Norma Casteel of Shawnee; her three children; plus 4 grandchildren: Ellen, Emma and Ethan Pfeffer of Collinsville, and Olivia Bergsten of Shawnee; three sisters - PatFowler, Kathy Crosby, Dorothy Davis, and brother Les Casteel. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, with graveside services at Resthaven Cemetery. (submitted by Linda Pfeffer 371-5508) -- 12/20/2008 |
