Former Collinsville
High School Soccer Players, Bring your cleats and shin-guards for the:
1st Annual Collinsville High School Alumni Soccer Game When: April
21st, 2007 |
The 1914 soccer match above is the earliest soccer game I've found in my Collinsville research. There were many workers here in Collinsville from all over the world & US during the zinc smelter (teen) years. Soccer didn't really take off in the US until the about the 1970s? When I was in the 5th & 6th grade at Central (early 60s), we occasionally played "soccer" with a basketball during recess where the Indian Ed building now stands south of the Middle School. I'm not sure exactly when soccer was added as a CHS sport but had two daughters on the 2000 team here after they grew up on kid soccer in Texas. I'm sure none of the players from 1914 will make the 2007 soccer alumni game but will include a few candidates below from some more recent CHS teams. -- Ted Wright (CHS 1969) |
