John Butts was a senior on the 1949 CHS football and graduated in 1950.
The John Butts letter at right was received by Bill Wright after a B52 near Skiatook in 1957, while John was stationed in England (almost 50 years ago).
John & his son also helped organize several local tennis tournaments. The photo above is from July 4th, 2003.
From 1/17/2007 Tulsa World: Collinsville -- John Ira Butts Sr., 74, salesman, died Monday in Tulsa. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Collinsville Funeral Home, and service 10 a.m. Friday, Meadowcreek United Methodist Church.

John Ira Butts Sr., 74, passed away Monday January 15, 2007. He was born on February 7, 1932 in Tulsa Oklahoma to Harvey & Ida (Daniel) Butts. He graduated from Collinsville High School in 1950. Following graduation he entered the United States Air Force. While serving in England he met and later married Gretchen Margaret Gosling in 1952. He proudly served for 20 years, retiring as a Master Sargent.
Following his military career he entered the oilfield business working at Reda Pump Company in Bartlesville and later for Oil Dynamics Inc. in Tulsa. He retired from ODI in August 1994. He was a thirty-two degree mason with a lifetime membership at Collinsville Lodge #165. He spent the remainder of his retirement involved in many volunteer organizations as a leader and contributor. He organized the annual Golf Tournament raising thousands of dollars for the Collinsville Education Foundation. The Collinsville Tennis Association benefited each year from the July 4th tournament he organized. Later he enjoyed membership in the Tulsa Military Vehicles Club and Collinsville Nifty Fifties Group.

John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maggie Butts of the home. Son, John I Butts Jr. and wife Jackie of Tulsa, Daughter, Linda J Plunk & husband David of Collinsville. 5 grandchildren, Amber L Shanks, David A Plunk, Megan R Shanks, Jake Butts & Jackson R Butts, other relatives and many, many friends.
