Summer band ended Tuesday night after two sweltering evening practices this week. Summer practices for the full band began July 30th with morning and early afternoon sessions. Director Ron Lewis equated the 6 hours per day in the past 2 weeks to at least 6 weeks of progress if school had been in session. As a reward for their efforts learning the 2007 marching program (so far) the band was treated to burgers, hotdogs and some slip'n'slide fun to mark the end of summer band. The band will start at normal school time Thursday for the first day of school and then start 7am practices Friday which will continue until marching season ends sometime in November. The CCC Band Boosters held their monthly meeting at Sallee Field Tuesday while their kids practiced. The boosters continue their efforts to supplement funds for the many activities of the band including equipment and travel needs. They staff the concession stand at football games (at all age levels) as one of their major fund raisers each year. A few new fund raisers
are being tried this year. In addition their normal morning practices the band will also have Tuesday evening practices at the field. The band has grown to about 65 members this year (about 50 marched last season). There are about 25 first time members who have just learned the basic of marching band. Anyone interested in supporting the high school band is invited to join the boosters or simply donate to the organization. |
