Bizarre
Play of the Game -- Collinsville drove inside Webster's 10 yard line with
their opening drive but a 4th down field goal attempt was blocked (above). The
ball landed inside the Webster 5 and a Webster player picked up football thinking
the play was over. The referees never blew a whistle, the Webster offense was
coming onto the field, and after figuring out why the official wouldn't put
out his hands to accept the ball, the Webster player with the ball finally started
running and reached the Cards endzone for what would have been a touchdown except
for all the extra players on the field. Instead, the illegal substitution penalty
left Webster with the ball at their own 9 yard line at 7:43 in the 1st quarter.
Safety
-- Webster failed to pick up a first down on their first possession (following
the punt block at left) and the snap on their 4th down punt attempt sailed over
the punter's head who tracked down the ball but either stepped over the endline
or was stopped in the endzone for Collinsville's first 2 points of the game
at 6:01 in the first quarter.
Garrett
Thurman (#34) has just crossed the goal line for Collinsville's first touchdown
from 10 yards out at 3:40 in the 1st quarter. The drive started at the Webster
41 following the free kick after the safety. Phillips, Billups and Thurman rushes
covered those 41 yards in 6 plays. The point after pass attempt was incomplete
and Collinsville had an 8-0 lead.
Although
the football teams were struggling with their kicking games, the Collinsville
Cheerleaders appeared to split the uprights on this toss during their half time
dance routine.
The
Collinsville Crimson Cadet Band wore their new competition uniforms before the
home crowd for the first time Friday Oct. 27th. (Previous
Coverage)
Another
Kicking Game Disaster -- Still leading by only 8 points in the 4th quarter
this Jared Billups (#4) punt was blocked on a 4th and 12 from the Cardinal 47.
Webster took over at the Collinsville 41 with just over 7 minutes left in the
game. Webster scored a few plays later on a 40 yard pass play. The extra point
run attempt was stopped short by the Cardinals and the score was 8-6 with 6:24
left.
