When Indian Territory and Oklahoma Territory combined to become a state on Nov. 16, 1907, forty-five states had already joined the United States of America. In the following 99 years only New Mexico & Arizona (in 1912) and Alaska & Hawaii (in 1959) have become states younger than Oklahoma.

The land and people of the new state of Oklahoma already had a rich history before President Therodore Roosevelt signed the formal statehood documents in 1907. The two adjoining news articles indicate two things:
1) The Collinsville News was already in it's ninth year (Vol 9 with W.L. Wright as editor).
2) Statehood was still not a done deal as late as October 1907 with some still lobbying Roosevelt not to approve the plan.

CHS junior Saxon Lewis will be representing Collinsville (& Oklahoma) in the Oklahoma Centennial All*Star Band Nov. 18th in the Tulsa Parade and Jan. 1st at the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena ... and several other Centennial events in the next year.

Oklahoma 99th Birthday Event at The Collinsville Library begin at 8am Thursday Nov. 16th, 2006.
