The photo caption for the April 28, 1983 The Collinsville News pool story above reads: "Daren Blackwood wonders when the city swimming pool will be ready". After receiving no bids for a month for sandblasting and painting the pool, the city finally received a bid and acted on it under new business with an emergency action. Commissioner Preston Stanley was acting mayor with Ray Henshall absent. Commissioners H.M. Rogers, Jerry Hawkins and Mayilyn Dirickson approved the action. By the time the pool opened for Memorial Day, Mayor Henshall had resigned for health reasons and was then in charge of the pool operations. |
