Speaker At Northeastern State University Graduation 2006
Graduation was to be held at Doc Wadley Field, but due to rain the ceremony was divided into three phases and held in the Tom Rousey Gymnasium. Therefore, there were three speeches instead of one!!! A second graduation was held at the Van Trease Performing Art Center at Tulsa Community College for the NSU Broken Arrow campus. There were two ceremonies there due to the number of graduates.
I felt it was an honor as the President of the Northeastern State Alumni Association to represent the thousands of NSU alumni by speaking to the graduates at this year's ceremonies.
Also, as the controversy of using Native American names for nicknames, logos, and mascots continues, Northeastern Redmen are facing a name change within the next year. A committie has been set up by NSU President Larry Williams to research the possibility of a new nickname, logo design, and mascot for the university. I have been selected to serve on that committee representing the alumni and also as past basketball player for the university to share representing that group. The committee work is to be completed by November 15 so that athletic uniforms for the 2007 seasons can be ordered and the university bookstore can begin its orders in February. The committee will select a nickname and then a design team will be formed to put together a logo and mascot to coincide with the new nickname. Trying to keep the new selection a secret will be the biggest problem facing the group, but officially the name won't be announced until August of 2007.
