Was Guthrie "Robbed"
of The State Capitol?
I won't tell you how many years it has been since I took Oklahoma History at CHS but I do recall that the State Capitol (via the oficial seal and other documents) was wisked away in the dark of night from an unwilling Guthrie to an anxious Oklahoma City. I will need to do a bit more research and may do a followup page later in this www.cvilleok.com Centennial Series. For now I will just let you read a story exactly as published in the Collinsville News in August of 1912 (almost five years after statehood with Guthrie still the original Capitol). My grandfather's brother (F.A. Wright) was the editor at that time and my guess is the story was supplied to him with an obvious Oklahoma City bias. It might have even been a paid advertisement? -- Ted Wright -- 12-5-2006
