Steve Howe (Chamber president) accepts an award for the Chamber from Susan Babbit and her boss Paula Settoon, Division Director, Branch Services at the Tulsa City-County Library system. The award was a "Rave Review to the Chamber of Commerce for their continual support of the Collinsville Library 4-6-06". A similar award had been made to City of Collinsville. The Collinsville Library was celebrating it's 6th anniversary (April 6) in the refurbished building originally completed in 1917.
Now in it's 107th year, the Collinsville News is settling in with it's third ownership "family". The newspaper was founded and operated by the Wright family of Collinsville for the first 88 years (1899-1987). The Retherford family owned and operated the newspaper from 1987 to December 2005. The current owner (CPI) is based in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Community Publishers, Inc. (CPI) now operates 28 publications in this area of Oklahoma including 19 weekly newspapers. Mike Brown is in charge of this Oklahoma division of CPI. Mike told the lunchtime Chamber of Commerce audience that CPI was excited to be here in Oklahoma with the growth prospect of Collinsville and surrounding communities. He said the communities should not expect to see major changes under the new ownership but that change will be implemented over time to keep up with changing technology and the business environment. The company currently has 115 Oklahoma employees.
Note: This www.cvilleok.com web site has no business association with the current Collinsville News or CPI.
