Police Chief Charlie Annis indicated today (March 11th) that the Collinsville Police Department was still accepting applications for those interested in serving as reserve officers. These officers would supplement the regular officers during scheduled community events such as parades and car shows, or other times when additional officers are required. Training classes begin May 2nd in Owasso and run for 16 weeks (160 hours CLEET training on Saturdays plus one night a week).

Applications can be picked up at the Police Station at 1023 W. Center. After the application is returned the candidate will take a written test, be interviewed and obtain a physical exam. A background check will also be conducted. Candidates must be at least 23 years of age and have no felony, DUI, marijuana possession, crime of moral turpitude, or domestic violence conviction. They must also be a U.S. citizen and have a high school diploma (or GED), valid driver's licence, and no dishonorable discharge from the military.

When the reserve officers are CLEET certified they have the same arrest powers as a regular officer, but have some additional firearms restrictions when off duty. The reserve officers would need to purchase some of their own equipment, but the police department will supply as much as is available.
