David
Chester Homers with
2 out in 7th
for 6-4 win
Freshman
David Chester crushed a homer over the left field fence with two runners on,
the Cards trailing Skiatook 3-4 and down to their last out of the game.
The
Cardinal dugout rushes the field to greet David Chester as he rounds the bases
after providing a dramatic come from behind victory over Skiatook in the 7th
inning.
Not
only did catcher David Chester have the game winning hit, he also made several
key stops behind the plate with runners on base.
Cardinal
pitcher Tyler Whitaker gave up 2 runs in the first and another in the second,
then held Skiatook scoreless after that, pitching into the beginning of the
sixth inning.
Tyler
Whitaker and Josh Compton come close to picking off this Skiatook runner at
first. Tyler had picked off a runner heading to second earlier in the game.
This
Collinsville baserunner slides into second in the third inning.
Josh
Compton successfully tracked down this popup in foul territory.
Following
1-out singles in the 5th by Jesse Bugg and Josh Compton, batter Jason Scott
hit a ball into center field that dropped in front of the fielder, but Bugg
was forced out at third for the second out.
As
the Collinsville players surround David Chester at the plate, the Skiatook players
prepare to shake hands in defeat after having led until Collinsville's last
at bat.
Collinsville
scored their first two runs in the fourth inning to cut Skiatook's lead to 2-3.
Josh Compton lead off the 4th with a single. Jason Scott's double was followed
by Tyler Whitaker's single down the 3rd base line which sent the first runner
home. David Chester singled in the next run. A passed ball left runners at 2nd
and 3rd with no outs. Chad Ausmus' hard liner to 2nd also got the runner doubled
off 3rd.
Cory
Flynn came on to pitch for Collinsville in the 6th inning with a runner on first
and no outs. Cory gave up a walk and a single to load the bases before striking
out the next two batters. Another walk gave Skiatook their final run and a 2-4
lead going into the 7th.
Trailing
by two runs in the final inning, Collinsville's Ricky Rimpley led off with a
single. Jesse Bugg hit into a fielder's choice replacing Rimpley on the bases.
Josh Compton lined out for the second out but Bugg advanced to second on a Skiatook
error. Jason Scott then reached first safely as the Skiatook fielder tried unsuccessfully
to tag him rather than throw to first. Tyler Whitaker then singled in Bugg to
pull Collinsville within one run at 3-4. David Chester then ended the game with
a towering homer to left for a 6-4 conference win.
